Goals and Objectives
Goals and Objectives
Primary Goal: Provide small and medium-sized energy users with the education and information they need to adopt energy practices that produce economic benefits, reduce environmental impacts, and increase the sustainability of energy supply.
Objectives:
- Provide objective and credible information to consumers, to organizations that influence them, and to educators about the science and the technology of energy resources, power production and energy use.
- Gather information about the energy use practices, efficiency opportunities, and the energy education needs of small and medium-sized energy users.
- Demonstrate that education and information are effective tools to assist consumers in adopting energy practices that are cost-effective, environmentally benign, and sustainable.
- Utilize existing materials and collaborate with other institutions and organizations.
- Establish a program to educate students to identify cost-effective efficiency investments, and to provide information homeowners need in order to implement efficiency measures.
- Explore possibilities for developing other energy education programs for small and medium-sized energy users, including local governments.
- Encourage replication of CESC's successes.
Secondary Goal: Collaborate with schools, associations, and membership organizations.
Objectives:
- Continue assessing organizations that have the potential to be allies or partners.
- Secure partnership agreements that can further CESC's mission.
Tertiary Goal: Strengthen the partnership with NREL and with centers such as the NREL Visitor's Center to enchance the productivity of CESC's outreach and education efforts.
Objectives:
- Utilize the Visitor Center for activities.
- Work closely with NREL staff to publicize tours of the Visitor Center.
- Increase sales of merchandise from the Visitor Center gift shop.
- Assist NREL in supporting expansion and enhancements of Visitor Center displays, and continue to include information about the wide range of energy options in these displays.
Organizing for Success
CESC will succeed by applying the following principles and strategies:
- An ambitious plan requires an ambitious level of effort. CESC will strive for growth and attempt to mount an effort that can make significant progress towards its mission.
- Manage projects well.
- Evaluate progress.
- Leverage CESC's effort by working through other institutions and organizations. Instead of building an independent delivery infrastructure, CESC will partner with organizations that already interact with large numbers of energy users.
- Provide credible information. Instead of telling people to act in certain ways, CESC should provide information to energy users who will decide whether or not to act.
- Begin by building awareness. Small and medium-sized energy users are often unaware of the benefits of managing their energy use.
- Strive for a diversified mix of funding.
